You could be eligible to take over a tenancy if you live with a council tenant who dies. This is called tenancy succession.
In order for us to process your application you are required to provide the following evidence:
- Death Certificate
- Proof of your relationship to the deceased
- Proof of ID such as: Passport, full/provisional UK driving licence with photo
- National Identity Card
- UK birth certificate (only where none of the above are available) plus two passport photos
If you are the spouse or civil partner of the deceased tenant, you are required to provide evidence that you resided at the property with the tenant at the time of their death.
If you are a qualifying member of family you are required to provide evidence that you resided at the property with the tenant for a period of 12 months prior to their death. These should be from five different sources. (Five bank statements would be classed as one item). We will send you an email to request this proof once you have completed this application.
